We were asked to compete with five other groups in creating the tallest free-standing structure in under 18 minutes. We were given several resources which included 20 pieces of spaghetti, a marshmallow, a yard of string, and a yard of tape. The challenge slightly changed when we were told the winning group would receive 10 bonus points. We began by creating a square base; using the four corners of the base, we created an upward-moving triangle from. In thethe top-center of the triangular structure we placed more strands of spaghetti to lengthen our design. Throughout the process we had to re-plan our building multiple times in an effort to create a more sturdy structure. This group activity allowed us to perform under constructivist methods by collaborating, brainstorming, and working together to create our design. This project is related to the The National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T) standard 1. A., which states that instructors should "promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness". It also can be related to Standard 1. C., "promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes" and standard 1. D. "Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments".
